Once our climber was released, the Gran Couva didn't hang around and within about 30 minutes was sailing out of the port. It was already loaded with palm oil and so ready to leave, which is what we were frustrating.

As for what industries are using palm oil, it's mainly used in a wide-range of foods, cosmetics and detergents, as well as a small but growing amount being used for biofuels. Plus it's very difficult to avoid - often on the list of ingredients, it's only called 'vegetable oil'. For more info, try this primer and FAQ about palm oil from our UK website.

Great video, good to see people using creative tactics to brand corporations with their crimes. Just out of interest, did the tanker end up carrying on its way in the end or did it have to turn around? My immediate reaction to this issue is one of concern that the clearing of natural forest to accomodate palm plantations would surely have a huge effect on the natural habitat of various species, but it has also led me to wonder what industries use large quantities of palm oil, hopefully Wikipedia might hold the answers.... :-)
